Maui - The island of Lana'i

Wednesday we took a ferry over to the island of Lana'i. We saw whales on the trip over - pretty awesome. Cory was sporting his 2nd new cool hat - and you can see me in the reflection of his sunglasses! It was a 45 minute ferry ride over to the island - you can see Maui in the far distance. It was so peaceful.The island has only 2 hotels - both owned by the Four Seasons. We started at the Lodge at Koele at the top of island - it's nowhere near the beach but the grounds are immaculate. We walked around their gardens and even went into their greenhouse. They had one small church nearby (Kalokahi Oka Malamalama). We walked down from the lodge into the City of Lana'i - population 3000 (the entire island's population). The pastures along the way were so green.In the city (small village), we ate lunch at a local eatery, Blue Ginger Cafe. The sign on the corner shows the way to the highlighted stores/stops - take a close look at some of the signs they added! We stopped at the Local Gentry - a very nice clothing boutique where I bought a long sleeve shirt for the ferry ride home (I'm wimpy when it starts to get cold).This shot of the side of a building is just one of those random "love this" shots. We went into a store called 'Dis and Dat' and didn't make it too far before we had to leave - Cory's head kept hitting all the wind chimes that hung from above. :-) And this is the church in Lana'i. They are in the process of building a new one.This last shot was from the pool deck at the Manele Bay Hotel. The hotel is right on the beach - I could wake up to that everyday!
