Jamie Whitmore Sidelined

I recently received an invitation to participate in a Fun Run in support of Jamie (read below). I wanted to share with you her story. Jamie Whitmore has cancer, and it's a particularly nasty, rare form of a sarcoma (nerve sheath tumor). Much of this is detailed on www.JamieWhitmore.com, but here's a bit of her background.

"Jamie is a gifted athlete with some special talents that she will never use again. She is a professional Xterra (off-road) triathlete with 41 career wins, including 6 times as U.S. Pro Champion and one time as a World Champion. She was born and raised in this area and still lives here with her husband Courtney, also our friend and just a great guy. Jamie and Courtney have been fervent activists and fundraisers for the incurable, inherited Huntington's disease. Both are 32 years old.

Jamie has endured two 11-12 hour operations since March where doctors have removed her glute muscles from one side, part of her pelvis, and some of her sciatic and sacral nerves leaving her disabled. Despite radiation after the first operation, the tumor grew back aggressively. A troublesome infection has set in after the second, more invasive operation. She is trying to overcome the infection so she can undergo six months of powerful chemotherapy. Her burning desire to defeat the opposition has taken on new meaning."

I felt compelled to share this with you. There are so many people such as Jamie that could use your help. But for as much as I enjoy working out and the outdoors, this particular situation really moved me to share it with you. Read the "How you Can Help" section of her blog.
